Enjoy the Arizona Winter Activities
And Protect Your Pearly Whites
It finally feels like winter, meaning our temperatures have dipped below 90 degrees and we’re able to enjoy all the outdoor activities and events that make Arizona such an amazing place to live!
Tis the season to embrace the outdoors, so we’re sharing some of our favorite ways to stay active and explore Arizona, along with tips for protecting your smile as you embrace winter:
Hit The Trails
With average temperatures in the 60s and 70s, there’s no better time to get fit while enjoying the stunning desert scenery that surrounds us. We’re blessed to have an abundance of hiking trails within the metro area, including Camelback Mountain, Piestewa Peak, South Mountain and Pinnacle Peak. Or, grab your boots and winter gear and head up north to enjoy scenic trails like Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona or Walnut Canyon in Flagstaff. Great scenery, exercise, and breathtaking views await!
Tee Off!
When people think of Arizona, they likely envision desert-lined fairways— there are over 40 golf courses in Ahwatukee alone! Enjoy the winter sunshine and get your swing on at any of our popular golf courses. Of course, don’t forget about the “Greatest Show on Grass” that happens in our backyard every February.
Holiday Fun
While we may not have snow in Ahwatukee, there’s no lack of festivity in and around the neighborhood throughout the holiday season. We love to partake in the annual Tumbleweed Tree Lighting Ceremony in Chandler or catch a holiday performance by the talented Ahwatukee Foothills Concert Band. Plan ahead and venture into Phoenix to marvel in the sparkling lights and ambience of the Desert Botanical Garden’s Las Noches De Las Luminarias or delight in the magic of Ballet Arizona’s annual Nutcracker.
Winter Sports & Adventures
Keep the kiddos active (and off their devices!) this winter by signing up for a recreational youth sports team. Winter adventures also await just a few hours from Ahwatukee. Jump in the car and head up north for a variety of winter family fun. Flagstaff offers an abundance of skiing, snowboarding and sledding geared toward novices and daredevils alike. Plus, don’t forget to hit the rink for ice skating and ice hockey! Try snowshoeing in the historic town of Williams or board the iconic Grand Canyon Railway (aka, Polar Express) to visit the “North Pole.” Prescott also offers a fabulous and festive Christmas lights display around the Courthouse Plaza.
Keep Your Smile Sparkling and Safe All Winter
As you venture out and about this winter, don’t forget to protect your teeth, especially as you partake in winter sports and activities. A properly-fitted mouth guard is a must during contact sports like ice hockey, and as a means of protection from potential hard falls while ice skating, skiing, or snowboarding. Remember, Dr. E and her team can custom-fit you or your child with a protective mouth guard to safeguard your smile.
Here are more tips to protect your smile throughout the busy, active holiday season:
- Stay hydrated—drink plenty of water to produce the saliva necessary to cleanse your smile during winter sports, gatherings, and festivities.
- Brush-on-the-go—keep dental travel tools and accessories handy for brushing and flossing on-the-go as you and your family enjoy all that the season offers throughout our great state—and beyond.
- Prioritize dental health—despite the busy, festive season, keep oral health a priority and visit Dr. E for your family’s regularly scheduled check ups.
Use our tips to partake in winter fun while preserving your smile. The entire Dr. E Cosmetic & Family Dentistry team wishes everyone a SAFE and happy winter season and we hope to see you soon! 480-494-2435
